Piraeus Bank CEO featured in Athens Voice article about life in Ukraine
08 October 2026

Yannis Kyriakopoulos, Country Manager and CEO of Piraeus Bank in Ukraine, was featured in a recent article by Greek media outlet Athens Voice, based on journalist Loukas Velidakis’s 28-day visit to Ukraine.

During their conversation in Kyiv, Mr. Kyriakopoulos shared his view of the challenges Ukraine continues to face and the prospects he sees for the country. Having led Piraeus Bank in Ukraine throughout the full-scale war, he brings to this perspective his own experience of living in Kyiv and facing many of the same realities that affect the Bank’s employees and clients, as well as businesses across the country.

During Loukas Velidakis' time in Kyiv and Chernivtsi, he met and spoke with journalists, diplomats, academics, business representatives, members of the military and local residents. Bringing together their experiences and observations, the article offers Greek readers a first-hand view of the realities Ukrainians face — from Russian attacks and nights spent in shelters to the ways people, businesses and institutions continue to work and plan for the future.

For Piraeus Bank, conversations like these are an opportunity to contribute to a better-informed and realistic understanding of Ukraine among international audiences, drawing on direct experience of operating in the country. As part of the international Piraeus Group, Piraeus Bank in Ukraine combines its team’s local expertise and understanding of the Ukrainian market with the experience and support of an international financial group.
